Part identification on a skid

The inspection point

On a mixed line, body parts arrive on skids and each part type calls for a different robot program. The wrong program means a scrap part or a stopped line. What makes it hard is that the parts resemble each other and their position on the skid shifts a little every time, so the appearance of the part has to be learned rather than described by a fixed rule.

How it runs on the line

The unit is mounted looking at the point where the skid passes. Part identification is trained on about 20 good parts collected from your line, each part type becoming its own class. When a skid arrives the unit captures the image, classifies the part and sends the result to the PLC. The robot picks its program from that result, with no manual changeover.
