Anomaly and defect detection

Weld seam appearance inspection

The inspection point

How a weld seam looks is the fastest way to read the state of the process from outside: rising spatter, a narrowing seam or an interrupted bead are usually the first signs that wire feed, gas or speed has drifted. The inspection is limited to the surface; internal defects such as porosity require a different method.

How it runs on the line

The unit is mounted over the seam, far enough back to stay out of the heat. The model learns the appearance of good seams; spatter build-up, uneven width and interruptions are flagged as deviation. The result reaches the station as pass/fail and the record is kept per part.
